When you choose to terminate the pregnancy in a private surgical clinic, you have the option of choosing the doctor, who will perform the procedure. During the first session the doctor will answer all of your questions. He will then perform an ultrasound examination. During this test, the physician will be able to determine the gestational age with high accuracy. Together you will choose the schedule for termination of pregnancy that best suits you.
After the procedure is performed, the attending doctor will continue the medical follow-up observation, will answer all of your questions and will remain available for you if necessary.
Conditions under which an application for pregnancy termination can be submitted
- The woman is under 17 (the minimal legal age for marriage at the State of Israel).
- The woman is over 40.
- The woman is not married or has entered pregnancy outside of marriage (regardless of age)
- The pregnancy is a result of rape or incest
- A physical or a mental defect is discovered in the embryo
- The pregnancy might endanger the physical or mental wellbeing of the woman
If the pregnancy does not fall under the above conditions, the committee will not approve the termination.

Committee for termination of pregnancy
In order to terminate a pregnancy, you must meet the conditions of the committee, the termination of pregnancy committee will be conducted at the medical center in Medica, which is supervised by the Ministry of Health and is licensed by the Ministry of Health to perform abortions. If the committee approves the abortion, you may undergo the procedure at the Medica Medical Center.
When you arrive at the committee you must have with you the following documents:
- Valid ID of the applicant
- Ultrasound tests 1, which include the following data: number of fetuses, CRL, viability (or lack of) of therapeutic methods, scan of the fetus with the date and the woman’s name.
- Laboratory tests, which include the following: up-to-date blood count, woman’s blood type.
What awaits you in the process?
- When you arrive at the medical center, you will be met by the committee secretary and will be invited for a meeting with the social worker.
- The social worker will introduce you to the process and you can consult with her regarding your decision to terminate the pregnancy.
- If you wish, you can then talk to the physician who is going to perform the termination procedure, and to consult with him.
- You will then be required to sign a document where you agree that you have received all the information and that you are aware of all the risks and everything that’s involved in the termination of pregnancy. You will receive the committee’s decision the same day.
- If a negative answer is received, you will be given the opportunity to appear before the committee and to appeal for your request. If a positive answer is received, a date will be set for you to terminate the pregnancy.
- At any stage in the process, you can consult your doctor and reconsider your decision to terminate the pregnancy.
- All the information shared with the committee remains confidential and is used solely for the purpose of the committee reaching its decision. After the termination of the pregnancy, it is recommended to seek advice in the field of family planning and prevention of undesired pregnancies and to receive information before entering another pregnancy.
