Education

Dr. Gil Perez graduated from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2002, and after his internship began his military service as part of the IDF academic reserve, discharged in a rank of a major.

As part of his military service, Dr. Perez has served in a variety of positions which included working closely with the Ministry of Health and with hospital administrations throughout Israel. Simultaneously, Dr. Perez has attained an M.A. in Health Systems Management, cum laude, from the Ben Gurion University of the Negev.

During 2008-2014, Dr. Perez had performed his specialization at the Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot, and had completed his certification exams with honors.

After completing the specialization, Dr. Perez proceeded to start a clinical and research fellowship in the field of glaucoma at the Cambridge University, England, sponsored by the European School of Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology (ESASO), and was the organization’s first expert in this field.

As part of the specialization, Dr. Perez worked at the Addenbrooke’s (Cambridge University Hospital), Hinchingbrooke, and Ipswich hospitals. In addition, he has worked at the VERU (Visual Eye Research Unit) Research Institute, affiliated with the Anglia Ruskin University of the Cambridge.

Upon returning to Israel, Dr. Perez began working as the head of the Glaucoma Department at the Asaf ha-Rofe Medical Center. Dr. Perez is an instructor for specializing doctors, medical students and interns as part of his work at hospitals in Israel and abroad.

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damages the optic nerve. In most cases, the disease is associated with increased intraocular pressure. The nerve cells gradually degenerate, causing irreversible damage to the field of vision, may eventually lead to blindness. The treatment is directed to halting the further spread of the disease by reducing the intraocular pressure.

– Glaucoma as a result of trauma
