What is the Spacer Gel and who is it meant for?
Spacer Gel is a gel substance with radiation inhibiting properties which is injected in a transperineal method (through the skin).
The injection is performed on patients with prostate cancer who are intended for extracorporeal radiation therapy for the prostate.
+ How is the injection performed?
Under general anesthesia lasting a few minutes, the Spacer Gel is injected between the prostate and the rectum.
During irradiation, the amount of radiation reaching the rectum is decreased.
This procedure is usually combined with the insertion of gold seeds (Fiducial).
